Idrissa Gueye has already shared what's 'exceptional' about Everton target Pape Gueye
Everton are keeping an eye on Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye as David Moyes looks to strengthen his midfield.
The Toffees want to bolster their engine room this summer and have identified the Senegal international as one of their targets.
With Idrissa Gueye now a free agent after his contract at the Blues expired, they need a replacement for the veteran midfielder.
Pape is in demand this transfer window and his situation is being monitored by the Hill Dickinson Stadium hierarchy.
The Merseyside outfit feel the 27-year-old "fits their plans", but several other teams are in the race for his signature.
With the LaLiga side considering the midfielder one of their "most valuable assets", it remains to be seen how much they demand for him.
What Idrissa Gueye has said about Pape Gueye
Idrissa has played alongside Pape with the Senegal national team and may have given the Toffees a glimpse into what they could get if they sign the midfielder.
In the AFCON final against Morocco, the Villarreal ace scored the winning goal for his nation in extra time, albeit the result was overturned a few weeks later after CAF decided to strip the Lions of Teranga.
Idrissa has seen Pape try to score from outside the box in training and he managed to pull it off against Morocco.
According to Cadena Ser on 6 July, sources close to the ex-Olympique Marseille star have admitted that, despite interest from several teams, no deal has been finalised yet, as no offers have been submitted.
Speaking after the AFCON final, Idrissa said, "Pape is used to trying those kinds of shots in training. He's not really a youngster anymore, but he's determined. He wanted to lift this trophy, just like the whole group.
"What he did today is simply exceptional. We hope he'll lead this team when we're no longer here and help them win more trophies."
David Moyes looks to change Everton tactics after transfer latest
Everton have signed Hayden Hackney from Middlesbrough, with the 24-year-old establishing himself as one of the most creative midfielders in the Championship.
The Englishman is completely different from someone like Idrissa in terms of style and will bring more calm and composure in possession to the Toffees.
The Senegalese veteran was more of a destroyer for the Blues in the engine room, trying to win back possession, but with Hackney, the Blues will arguably be able to play through the lines more effectively.
Pape is more of a box-to-box midfielder, capable of providing goal contributions, and it looks like Moyes could be moving away from a conservative approach to an attacking brand of football next season.
