The Jamie Leweling to Everton door has been opened on the player's side as he spoke on his future at the World Cup.

The German forward has gone from strength to strength for Stuttgart and earned his place on the plane despite just four caps before his call-up.

So far, Leweling has made just one appearance from the opening two matches, coming on to face Ivory Coast in the 2-1 win.

For Everton fans, they may have been disappointed as they looked to catch a glimpse of the attacker previously linked with them.

While interest had emerged ahead of the summer transfer window, the Toffees business in the forward areas has been slow.

As things stand, they are currently focused on adding Hayden Hackney to their midfield but Leweling has hinted towards when he could begin to make a decision over his future.

What is the latest on Everton and Jamie Leweling?

Everton's interest in Leweling was reported by Sky Sports Germany towards the end of May.

The information shared that the interest was concrete and there were suggestions that contact had already been made over a move.

However, since then, it had all gone quiet on the links between the German and the Toffees.

But, if the Blues are eyeing a move, Leweling has seemingly opened the door to an exit out of Stuttgart with his latest comments.

Speaking at a press conference for Germany at the World Cup as relayed by Tribuna, Leweling said: “You should never rule things out, especially in football.

“But I feel comfortable in Stuttgart. We’re playing in the Champions League, and I have a good standing.

"I don’t want to say that I’ll stay 100 per cent, but I also don’t want to say that I’ll leave 100 per cent. I can say that I feel comfortable. My focus is currently on the World Cup and after that we’ll see. But that’s still a long way off.”

For Everton, it is great news with the winger effectively admitting he has no hard stance on remaining at Stuttgart.

And the potential door to take him out of the Bundesliga has been left wide open.

Where does Leweling play?

If you have been keeping up with the World Cup, you may have noticed that Leweling currently wears the number nine shirt for Germany.

That shirt number is associated with centre-forwards but the German is actually a winger.

Throughout the 2025-2026 campaign, the Bundesliga ace has more commonly been deployed on the left wing, but has also played quite a fair few games on the right.

That versatility will certainly appeal to David Moyes, who will have plenty more options for his lineup with the German in L3.

Time will tell if Everton make their swoop for the 25-year-old, but as his comments suggest, that would likely have to wait until after the World Cup.
