Newcastle twist emerges as Everton eye Leeds United ace Wilfried Gnonto

Everton are confident of signing Leeds United attacker Wilfried Gnonto despite interest from Newcastle, according to TEAMtalk.

The news outlet reported on 15 July that the Italy international is keen on sealing a move to Goodison Park this summer.

It's understood that the Whites will not allow the 20-year-old to leave for anything less than £25million.

The Toffees must exercise caution when considering a move for Gnonto, as the Italian forward's recent performances in the Championship do not necessarily justify a high price tag.

While his talent is undeniable, his output and consistency have been called into question, especially in the Championship where Leeds failed to secure promotion.

He managed to score just eight goals in 36 league appearances which is far from impressive considering the Whites were favourites in most games.

The Premier League is a more intense and demanding environment than the Championship and Everton must carefully evaluate whether Gnonto can make the step up even though he did have a season in the top flight.

Overpaying for the 20-year-old, who has yet to prove himself consistently at the top level, could be a risky move for the Toffees.

The Toffees should aim to negotiate a lower fee, ideally below £20million, to minimise the financial risk associated with the transfer.
