Russell Martin developments to benefit Everton after Abdul Fatawu links
Russell Martin looks set to take over at Leicester City, casting some much-needed doubt over Everton's move for Abdul Fatawu.
The Toffees have a number of areas in which they need to recruit this summer, but perhaps none quite as important as the final third.
Iliman Ndiaye aside, who was far his best in the second half of last season, Everton lack the difference-makers in attack to win games.
As a result, the Blues were linked with a move to sign Fatawu from Leicester after the Foxes suffered relegation to League One.
The 22-year-old managed nine goals and seven assists for Leicester, having started 43 times for them in the Championship.
However, that move may be set to take a turn with Martin looking likely to be their next manager, and it may be a good thing.
How Russell Martin hire could impact Everton transfer
There is still a high chance that Fatawu leaves Leicester this summer. After all, he is almost definitely far too good to ever step foot in League One.
However, the ambitious appointment of Martin may just persuade him to stay for one season, in hope of making it back into the Championship at the first time of asking.
And that may not be a bad thing for Everton, seen as a move for the winger would have been a huge, huge risk.
While Fatawu's numbers look good on paper, he lacked a lot of consistency last season as showcased by the fact that he failed to get a goal or an assist in any of his final five games.
Five of those goal involvements arrived within the first two months of the season, again demonstrating that.
What do Everton need to do this summer?
The Blues need to sign a winger, that much is clear.
However, any deal has to be the right one, and in all honesty, involve a player who has proven that he can thrive in the Premier League.
Everton have failed to progress for years now, and signing players like Fatawu would do nothing to help them in their pursuit of changing that next season.
