Scott McTominay has previously been linked with a move to Everton.

The midfielder has Premier League experience, having come through the ranks at Manchester United before leaving to join Napoli in 2024.

The 29-year-old has taken his game to the next level while in Italy, and even won the Serie A MVP award in his debut season for Napoli.

David Moyes is said to be keen on his fellow Scotsman, who has returned to training for Napoli in September following successful heart surgery.

The Toffees already added Hayden Hackney and Christian Norgaard to their ranks in the summer, but could be after another option in the middle of the park in January.

McTominay has now opened the door to a return to England, where he could settle unfinished business with Everton.

Everton were backed to sign McTominay from Napoli in the summer, and he has been dubbed "Moyes' kind of player".

Moyes is said to appreciate McTominay's box-to-box abilities, though the Blues could now land the midfielder for cheaper than the £40million suggested in the summer.

According to Sky Sports Switzerland, McTominay has opened the door for a return to the Premier League.

Manchester United and Aston Villa were among those interested last summer, as the player's agent has reportedly held discussions with several Premier League clubs already regarding his current situation.

The Scotland international's current salary earnings make a potential contract extension with Napoli seriously complicated.

The Serie A club values the midfielder between £21m and £25m.

Several English clubs are said to be likely to come back in with a move in the coming months, and one of those could be Everton.

What has McTominay said about contract renewal?

McTominay's contract is set to expire in June 2028, which currently makes January the best time for Napoli to sell the midfielder.

The Italian outfit has reportedly been trying to negotiate a new deal with the Scot in recent weeks, but if they cannot do so, a sale would most likely be desired sooner rather than later

He will only have 12 months left on his deal next summer, and even the player himself does not know if he will stay.

McTominay said in September, as quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport: "Will I stay at Napoli? I don't know; we haven't discussed it.

"In football, contracts come and go, but that's not the most important thing right now; the pitch is what matters. I still don't know if I'll renew."

Could Everton come knocking soon?
