The exact type of player Everton want next as agent speaks out

Everton's search for a new right-back this summer is getting desperate.

David Moyes has been hunting one all summer, but has yet to find his man.

Jake O'Brien, Merlin Rohl and Nathan Patterson have all been featuring in this position during Everton's pre-season campaign.

A whole host of players have been linked with solving this problem for the Toffees, but with a week to go until the Premier League starts, none have arrived.

It's not quite panic stations yet at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but time is running out if they are to address this key position of need without a panic buy.

However, we now seem to know why Everton haven't yet found their answer at the right-back position this summer.

What has agent said about Everton's right-back search?

Up until now, it's not really been clear what type of right-back Everton were looking to sign this summer.

Last season's starting right-back, O'Brien, is a central defender by trade, and wasn't able to carry much of a threat going forward.

As a result, many fans have been speculating that a forward-thinking player would be targeted this summer, but that may only be half-right.

Revealed in a Daily Mail report on Friday evening, an agent has detailed the precise right-back profile Moyes wants to sign.

The agent states that Everton are hoping to sign a "tall" player but one who also is an athlete at the position.

Meanwhile, the Toffees also are claimed to be looking for a right-back who can defend but is also able to get forward, as well as being inside of their transfer budget.

Naturally, those types of players don't grow on trees, and this could explain why Everton haven't yet signed anyone in this position.

It does, however, offer a level of excitement, as if the Toffees do find a player that matches this profile, it could be a very good addition indeed.

But where do Everton currently stand in their right-back hunt, and what has been said about a number of the players linked with a move to Merseyside?

Which target may require fundamental Everton tweak?

Some Evertonians may be feeling as though any right-back signing will do at this stage, but Toffees chiefs will be holding their nerve.

The wrong signing is often worse than no signing at all, and with significant transfer funds likely to be involved, Everton won't want to miss when they fire here.

As revealed in the aforementioned Daily Mail report, Benfica's Amar Dedic and Strasbourg's Guela Doue are outside of Everton's budget and thus won't be signed.

Lines can also be put through Kyle Walker, Brooke Norton-Cuffy and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Meanwhile, Daniel Munoz at Crystal Palace is said to be "admired", but he's more of a wing-back than a traditional full-back.

As a result, if he was to be signed, the report suggests that Moyes' tactical philosophy would have to shift in order to accommodate the Colombian.

Finally, a move for Celtic's Alistair Johnston could still be revived, but that may rely upon his ability to stay injury-free.
