Tim Sherwood weighs in on Richarlison to Everton debacle as 'quick resolution' mooted

Tim Sherwood believes Everton's proposed move for Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison would have been good for all parties.

The Toffees were clawing to sign a new number nine ahead of the summer transfer deadline, as Beto's exit gave them the green light to push for someone new.

A move for Richarlison did not materialise, while an attempt for Folarin Balogun fell through in the eleventh hour after the player felt betrayed.

This came after the Blues made a move for Joshua Zirkzee, which Balogun believed was over the issue that cropped up with his medical at Finch Farm, but this was not the case.

David Moyes only has Thierno Barry as a recognised striker option until January, when the Toffees may try to sign a new hit-man once more.

Everton did make a move for Richarlison, and Sherwood believes the Tottenham outcast should have his future resolved in the winter window.

Reports suggested that Richarlison turned down a move back to Everton due to financial reasons.

But those reports also seemed confusing after the Brazilian essentially pointed to the Toffees as the club of his heart.

After choosing against coming back to the Blues, he was unable to secure a transfer away from Tottenham, as head coach Roberto De Zerbi subsequently left the player out of his 25-man squad.

He had the chance to return back to Brazil with Vasco da Gama, but also reportedly turned the move down.

Sherwood has weighed in on everything that's happened for the 29-year-old in recent weeks.

He said, as quoted by Football.London: "It didn't materialise, or everyone thought he was going back to Everton. It would have been a good move for him; it would have been a good move for Everton.

"It's a shame for Richarlison. They got rid of [Cristian] Romero; they didn't want him; they didn't want Djed Spence, and they should have tried to pave the way for Richarlison to leave.

"Hopefully, that can have a quick resolution in January. It's a real shame for him and the club."

Richarlison has been seeking his legal options and has already approached FIFA to see if his contract with Spurs can be terminated with just cause.

This would leave him a free agent and able to go wherever he wants.

Everton had a £40million agreement in place with Tottenham, a fee that many supporters were not happy with to begin with.

This came as Iliman Ndiaye was supposed to be joining Spurs for £65m, until Manchester City came in and bought the winger from the Blues for £70m instead.

It's clear that Moyes wants another striker, and the only other option to get one right now is through the free agent market.

Mauro Icardi has been linked with Everton and Spurs in recent weeks after leaving Galatasaray.

He could be an option for Everton, but it's clear that any new move for Richarlison in the future would be a waste of time.
