Tyler Onyango faces brutal Everton reality after Stockport County loan
Tyler Onyango looks set to leave Everton this summer, with his recent loan spell at Stockport County likely sealing his fate.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been with Everton since he was a boy, developing as a highly-rated talent through the academy for many years.
He would make his Toffees first-team debut in January 2021, coming off the bench as a late sub in an FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday.
Since then, however, Onyango has only made four further senior appearances for Everton, and has been shipped out on numerous loan moves.
Burton Albion and Forest Green Rovers both sampled his talent in the 2022-23 season, before remaining with Everton in 2023-24.
Onyango has spent time in the last two campaigns on loan with Stockport County, and it's not his performances on the pitch for the League One outfit that look set to seal his Toffees exit.
How Tyler Onyango has fared for Stockport
After joining Stockport for the first half of the 2024-25 season, Onyango spent the entirety of 2025-26 with the Hatters.
During his 18 months with County, however, the versatile midfielder has made just 23 competitive appearances, with 13 of those coming in all competitions last term.
As per FotMob, he won 7.58 duels 3.36 tackles, registered 0.50 headed shots on goal and won 64.9 per cent of his aerial duels per 90 in League One last season.
Those numbers show that when he's been on the pitch for Stockport he's been a quality player for them, but being available for selection has been the main issue for him.
Indeed, his 2025-26 season was ended in mid-February with a hamstring injury, ensuring he was unavailable for 20 games last this past term.
Meanwhile, he was also injured for 100 days in 2024-25, missing an additional 19 games with a hamstring issue once again.
What is Onyango's contract situation?
So, what does his injury troubles mean for his Everton future?
Well, they could well mark the reason why he's not offered fresh terms this summer, with Onyango out of contract with the Toffees.
As we await confirmation of Everton's retained list, Onyango is now at the stage of his career where if he was going to make it on Merseyside, he probably needed to have done plenty more whilst out on loan.
It's cruel on him in that sense as obviously he can't help that if he's out injured, but at 23 and with minimal minutes and experience gained away from Hill Dickinson Stadium, he's now surely destined for the free agent market.
Onyango's contract is understood to expire on 30 June, and his 2025-26 campaign was the last thing he needed if he was going to have broken into David Moyes' first-team plans this summer.
