Everton have their sights on signing Manchester United talent Ethan Wheatley.

The Toffees have a slow-burner of a transfer window thus far, with Hayden Hackney arriving from Middlesbrough the only new face in the building.

Permanent deals have been struck for Merlin Rohl and Tyrique George, but both enjoyed loan spells at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton are keen to progress with their business, though, and add some depth and quality to David Moyes' squad.

More options in attack is said to be among Moyes' priorities, with the Scot loan on quality options in the final third.

And one player they are said to be looking at signing is Man United youngster Wheatley.

What's the status of Everton's interest in Ethan Wheatley?

Wheatley made his Premier League debut for Manchester United back in 2018 under Erik ten Hag.

He has made three appearances for the Red Devils in total, before enjoying loan spells with Walsall, Northampton Town, and Bradford City.

Now, according to noted transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Everton are interested in signing the 20-year-old forward.

Romano added that the Toffees are preparing a proposal ready to put forward a formal offer for the young Red Devils talent.

It remains to be seen what United's stance on letting Wheatley leave will be, but Everton appear ready to move forward in their pursuit.

What else do we know Ethan Wheatley?

Wheatley was named as Man United's Young Player of the Year back in 2024, after a breakout campaign.

He followed in the footsteps of the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Kobbie Mainoo in receiving the award.

Moreover, Wheatley has represented England at Under-17, U18, U19, and U20 level.

Wheatley spent the second half of last season on loan with Bradford in League One, but failed to score in 12 third-tier appearances.

Prior to that, he scored three in 22 League One games for Northampton Town.

Everton clearly believe he is a talent they could nurture, and Man United do have a wealth of options ahead of him in the pecking order.

For now, it feels like one to watch in terms of Everton's interest, but it does look as though there could be some movement in the near future.
