What we know as LaLiga club battle Everton for Mauro Icardi transfer
Everton continue to be linked with a move for Mauro Icardi as the race for his signature intensifies.
It is absolutely no secret that the Toffees are short of options and firepower up front.
A dismal end to the transfer window saw David Moyes left with just one senior striker in his squad in the shape of Thierno Barry.
Everton went through a deadline day saga with Folarin Balogun, who ultimately walked away from a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Beto had been allowed to depart for Fiorentina on loan, and their failure to land Balogun left them without a replacement.
Icardi is a free agent after leaving Galatasaray and could sign for Everton before January, but the Toffees face big competition.
Who could move for Everton-linked Mauro Icardi?
Argentine striker Icardi will be 34 in February, but could represent a good short-term option for Everton.
Icardi has spent all of his professional career in European football, representing the likes of Inter, Paris Saint-Germain, and Galatasaray.
Moyes is desperately short of options to supplement Barry, who remains inconsistent in an Everton shirt.
Journalist Ekrem Konur, who works for the likes of Caught Offside and the Daily Briefing, posted on X on Wednesday to report that Everton are one of seven sides interested in Icardi.
He states that LaLiga outfit Real Betis have now joined the race and are pondering a move for the 33-year-old.
POAK, Elche, and Benfica are also names considering making a move for Icardi, according to Konur.
Everton have a dilemma to solve
Everton are short of options, we all know that.
And Barry may have been among the goals this season, but the amount of chances he misses is still a huge concern.
So, if Icardi is a genuine option then of course it has to be considered.
But, he is in the twilight of his career now and has been without a club for several months.
Consequently, there will be concerns about his fitness and ability to hit the ground running on Merseyside.
January might feel some way off as things stand, but it might be worth showing patience and trying to muddle through until the winter window.
Both scenarios carry risk, and is certainly a dilemma for Everton and Moyes.
