When Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil swap deal can be completed as Everton close in on new signing

Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil are set to complete a swap deal between Everton and Crystal Palace.

The proposed swap deal has come out of nowhere to give Evertonians food for thought with the club's attacking situation.

McNeil looked set for a move to the Eagles back in January, but the transfer collapsed in the eleventh hour after legal terms were not finalised in time.

David Moyes even expressed his disappointment for the player, who is far down the pecking order at Hill Dickinson.

However, instead of selling him for what was supposed to be £20million, the Toffees look set to get a player instead.

Johnson could be a good signing for Everton, with the swap deal now increasingly likely to be completed.

Many thought £20m for McNeil would have been a fantastic deal in January, but the noise from the Everton end was that the transfer fall-through was on Crystal Palace, not them.

The winger was left emotionally hurt after he and his partner made plans to move to the south London club, though Everton fans were unsurprisingly quick to try and help him pick his head up for the run-in.

He did play some matches under Moyes towards the end of the season, but he now looks to have played his final game in royal blue.

Sky Sports reporter James Savundra has reported on X that McNeil is "set" to become a Palace player.

A swap deal that would see Johnson go in the opposite direction is said to be at an "advanced stage", with both parties keen to wrap up a deal soon.

It's still not clear on whether Everton will have to pay extra money on top of the swap deal for Johnson.

The Eagles signed the versatile forward from Tottenham in January for £35m, and so is likely to be worth more than McNeil in the transfer market.

According to talkSPORT correspondent Ben Jacobs, both Crystal Palace and Everton are optimistic about completing the deal.

It's said that the transfer deal could be formalised the week commencing Monday 10 August to Sunday 16 August, if everything goes to plan.
