When Everton will get definitive answer on Nahuel Molina pursuit as exit update drops
Everton have been strongly linked with a move for Atletico Madrid right-back Nahuel Molina this summer.
If/when David Moyes does finally sign a right-back this summer, Evertonians will rejoice.
This position is widely accepted as being the Toffees' weakest area of their squad, with now-permanent signing Merlin Rohl largely filling in there in pre-season so far.
A number of right-backs have been linked to Everton this summer, with one of the more high-profile players being experienced Atletico star Molina.
The 65-cap Argentine international hasn't featured for Diego Simeone's side in pre-season yet, after being given an extended break following his involvement at the World Cup.
He is now on the verge of leaving Atletico, but his destination doesn't appear to be Merseyside.
Where Nahuel Molina is expected to be in a matter of hours
Spanish newspaper AS have recently claimed in their print edition that Everton are interested in signing Molina, and that if a good offer arrives, all parties would be sure to green light it instantly.
As it happens, it would appear that this criteria has now been met for Atletico, but not involving Everton.
That's because a report from Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport on Saturday has claimed that Molina is about to become a Roma player.
It's claimed that despite still being on holiday after the World Cup, he's expected to arrive in Rome over the next few hours in order to undergo his medical.
Molina is stated as currently being in Ibiza celebrating his partner's birthday, but the report claims his "suitcase is practically packed" and that he's now waiting for permission to get on a flight to the Italian capital.
He's also understood to have completed the process to acquire Spanish citizenship, which means that Roma would free up a spot to sign a non-EU player.
But how much are Roma said to be paying to sign Molina, and should Everton have pushed harder to match it?
How much money Molina is set to earn with Roma
As detailed in a report from RomaPress, Roma have agreed to pay a fee of £11.1million to sign Molina from Atletico plus bonuses.
It's stated that he will sign a contract until 2030 in the Italian capital, which will see him pick up a wage of £2.1m per year.
Molina has played 181 times for Atletico, as well as turning out 68 times for Serie A side Udinese prior to that, and he's also vastly experienced at international level.
So, for a little over £11m, the 2022 World Cup-winner would surely have been a bargain signing for Everton, and there will undoubtedly be a number of Toffees fans disappointed not to see them win his signature at this price point.
