Why Adam Aznou's 'dramatic year' could yet take another twist as Everton exit route opens up

Published on

Adam Aznou has only been at Everton for a year, but already he could be on his way out.

The £8million signing from Bayern Munich barely featured under David Moyes in his maiden campaign on Merseyside.

Aznou played just once for the Toffees all season, coming in the FA Cup defeat to Sunderland in January.

Goodison News recently reported how Aznou had a great reception at Finch Farm as he returned for pre-season training.

Whether or not Moyes will show more trust in the youngster this coming campaign, though, remains to be seen.

And it may well be that Aznou is not even at Hill Dickinson Stadium come the start of the season.

Adam Aznou could get Champions League chance

Everton landing Aznou ahead of multiple other clubs last season was considered a transfer coup.

But it is fair to say the deal has not paid off - or at least it hasn't just yet.

Now, as per Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV have added Aznou to their list of left-back targets.

The reigning Eredivisie champions, who will compete in the Champions League in 2026-27, previously tried signing Aznou a year ago.

The Dutch outlet reports that Aznou has had a "dramatic year" after swapping Bayern for Everton and then being left out of the picture.

It also adds that the 20-year-old is not PSV's top target in that position at this stage.

Aznou gets Everton chance in pre-season opener

Aznou arrived at Everton at the end of July last year, so he was playing catch up from the off.

That is not the case this time around, however, as he was handed a start in Saturday's opening pre-season clash against Dundee.

Aznou played a little over an hour in Everton's 4-0 victory at Dens Park.

As we know, nothing can be read into pre-season results. But that is an encouraging way to kick things off, with Aznou no doubt also feeling a little more positive about his situation.

He may not be a regular anytime soon, assuming he sticks around, but opportunities should be a little easier to come by in 2026-27.
