Why David Moyes turned down chance to bring 'bargain' Troy Parrott to Everton
Everton will regret halting their pursuit of Troy Parrott this summer.
The Blues had long been linked with the Irish striker, who has continued to grow stronger over the last 12 months.
A new centre-forward was desperately needed, and the ending of the summer window made matters worse with Thierno Barry the sole forward at the club.
Parrott was a striker who already had knowledge of the English game, but it was Real Betis who managed to swoop to sign the coveted forward.
However, following Parrott's latest exploits on the international stage, where he scored four goals in four games, more details of Everton's chase have emerged.
With manager David Moyes said to be a key reason behind the Toffees not capturing the striker.
Why David Moyes decided against Everton signing Troy Parrott
Parrott's rise in La Liga and on the international stage has cast fresh light on Everton's pursuit.
After his exploits for AZ and Ireland in the 2025-26 season, Parrott was an attacker on the list of many club's around Europe, including Everton.
However, acording to AS, Moyes was a crucial factor behind the Irish forward not coming to Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Everton had reportedly opened talks with the Dublin-born player in the previous winter and summer windows.
But they share that the now Real Betis man failed to convince Moyes of his qualities, with the Merseyside outfit deciding to pursue other options.
In the end, Parrott joined the Seville club, with his price mooted as being a "bargain by Premier League standards" with Everton said to be "kicking themselves for it."
A move for Parrott could emerge again though, as Real Betis are "rubbing their hands" due to the striker's form, and through "potential offers" coming from England.
Would Parrott be open to a return to England so soon after Real Betis move?
Parrott is still in the early infancy of his career in Spain, so it is hard to see him pushing to leave already.
And it appears the ship to return to England may have already sailed.
As shared by De Telegraaf, via talkSPORT, Parrott had spoken on his fading desire of moving back to England
He stated: "Before I went to the Netherlands, I was completely focused on England, I dreamed of the Premier League.
"But once in the Netherlands, I discovered that the football world is a lot bigger than England."
Now, with him being adored by Real Betis supporters, and playing in the Champions League, this may simply end up as an Everton 'what if' with regrets only continuing to rise as he scores more goals.
