Why Diego Simeone’s Nahuel Molina admission is exactly what Everton need to hear

Everton's right-back search has seen countless names emerge the last week with Nahuel Molina among them.

David Moyes' side have been taking their time to locate their perfect target and progression in that area has finally been made.

Alistair Johnston is a prime candidate to come into the Merseyside club this summer window.

But Atletico Madrid defender Molina is also said to be on Everton's radar, with contact already made over a move.

If Molina does turn out to be the arrival for the Toffees this summer, they have already been told how to make sure he is a success.

And that is in part to his manager, Diego Simeone's previous assessment of the Argentine.

How should Everton utilise Nahuel Molina if signed?

Everton have not seen much attacking joy down their right-flank over the last while, with Jake O'Brien not exactly suited to bombing it up and down the wing.

However, with the addition of Molina, the Blues could finally have some excitement from right-back.

Speaking back in May 2026, Simeone detailed how to get the best out of Molina.

As relayed by AS, he said: "Regarding Nahuel, I'm absolutely certain that his best game is in transitions, from midfield to forward.

"He has goals, a shot, assists... When he's more offensive, he can give us all of that. From deeper positions, it's more difficult."

So, if Moyes is looking to increase Everton's threat in the final third, then instructing Molina to charge up the field as soon as the Blues win the ball back seems to be the way.

Everton have been needing creativity in that position, and the Atletico Madrid defender's qualities would fit the bill.

While Everton may find themselves pushed deeper at times, having an outlet such as Molina could be key to snatching goals against the run of play.

Is Molina the profile that Everton want?

It is hard to know exactly what criteria have been set for Everton's next right-back, but with strong links to Celtic's Johnston, it is clear a more attack-oriented fullback is on the agenda.

While injury prevented him from having much impact in the 2025-2026 season, in the campaign before, he notched 10 assists from right-back.

So, the fact that Molina also points towards that sort of player, who is looking to make a difference in the final third, makes him an intriguing option.

Whether it is the Canadian or Argentine who make the move to the Premier League is still up in the air, but it does appear that Johnston is the front-runner.
