Why everyone's talking about Dion Beljo as Everton plot January transfer
Everton are already scouring the market for a new striker in January, with Dion Beljo a player of interest.
The Toffees must make do with Thierno Barry until the start of the New Year, when the transfer window reopens for a month.
Everton have unsurprisingly been linked with a fair few strikers already since the summer window closed.
That, as Everton fans need no reminding, concluded in dreadful circumstances as no replacement striker was brought in for Beto.
Beljo, who plies his trade for Dinamo Zagreb, could be the man Everton turn to.
The Croatia international has been in sensational form of late, meaning Everton are not alone in showing an interest.
What's been said about Everton's interest in Dion Beljo?
Beljo has scored 12 goals in his past 14 appearances, including his maiden senior international strike for Croatia.
That came in the recent 4-1 UEFA Nations League loss to Spain, with that only further enhancing his reputation.
TEAMtalk report that Everton are one of a number of teams plotting a January move for "one of the most talked about forwards" in Europe.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be keeping a close eye on Beljo ahead of the window opening in around 11 weeks' time.
The report adds that as things stand, each of the aforementioned sides are continuing to gather information on the 24-year-old, rather than anything more concrete.
Given Beljo's remarkable form in front of goal, it is little wonder he is on the lips of multiple Premier League clubs and those further afield.
What has Beljo's agent said about possible transfer?
Beljo was touted as a target for other Premier League clubs in the summer, though notably not Everton.
Zagreb's elimination from the Champions League in August prior to the league phase ramped up talk he would be on the move.
That did not happen, however, and his form has only skyrocketed since then.
In an interview with Sportklub around the same time, Beljo's agent Srdan Lakic said: "Our position has been clear from the beginning - we will not rush anywhere where we do not think it is the right next step.
"I am in daily communication with the clubs. Nothing is happening at the moment, but in football you never know - everything can change in an hour."
Beljo looks likely to have a choice of clubs to choose from next year. Let's just hope Everton are among them.
