Why Nathan Zeze is worthy of second chance as Everton a main contender to strike deal
Everton are now in a strong position to complete a deal for centre-back Nathan Zeze.
The 21-year-old only arrived at Saudi Pro League club Neom last summer, but financial problems may force a sale.
Zeze previously caught the eye in two seasons at Nantes prior to his move to the Middle East.
Everton are not alone in their interest in the centre-back, with Crystal Palace also in the running.
Goodison News reported 12 months ago how Everton were eager to sign Zeze from Nantes.
While a deal could not be struck then, it makes sense for the Toffees to give the youngster a second chance of joining if the opportunity to do so is indeed there.
Everton named in 'significant' Nathan Zeze update
Everton target Zeze is a man in demand, with teams in other European leagues also monitoring his situation.
As per an update from French journalist Sebastien Vidal via X on Wednesday, Palace and Everton are "among the main contenders".
However, the competition is said to be "significant" at this stage.
Zeze made 31 league appearances for Neom in the 2025-26 season, while he previously featured 35 times for Nantes in all competitions.
He is a regular for France Under-21s and has been tipped to break into Les Bleus' senior side before long.
What would Zeze signing mean for current Everton players?
David Moyes has plenty of centre-backs to choose from at Everton, although some added quality would not go amiss.
Jarrad Branthwaite has struggled with injuries at Everton, but assuming he can stay fit, he would be an ideal partner for Zeze.
That would of course spell bad news for Jake O'Brien, James Tarkowski and Michael Keane.
While Keane and Tarkowski are now both 33 years old, O'Brien is just 25 and about to enter his peak years.
Moyes has found a place for the Republic of Ireland international at right-back, but an actual right-back is being sought this summer.
If nothing else it gives Moyes additional depth, though it all depends on exactly how much Neom want.
A deal is seemingly there to be done, but the last thing Everton want is to be caught in a transfer auction.
