Everton links to Milik set to end as striker agrees France move - report

The never-ending links between Everton and Arkadiusz Milik look set to finally cease with the Napoli forward close to joining Marseille, according to Sky Sports Italia

The out of favour striker was linked with a move to Goodison Park in the summer and those reports have continued into this winter window.

Milik finally looks to have his move away from Italy as Sky Sports Italia claim that the 26-year-old will undergo a medical with Ligue 1 side Marseille on Thursday.

The Daily Mail claim that Milik opted against moves to Everton and Tottenham this window with both clubs said to have been ‘beaten’ to his signing.

We can’t speak for Tottenham but there was always the feeling that Milik was never really a target for Carlo Ancelotti despite the Italian knowing the Polish striker from his Napoli days.

The Blues could do with a new striker as Cenk Tosun has so far failed to impress as Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s understudy this term but if we didn’t suspect it already, it is now certain that Milik will not be that new striker.

We did not see reports that Everton were ‘close to bidding’ or ‘ready to move’ for Milik either this month or in the summer.

Despite this, any time the Polish international was mentioned in a report the name of our club was inevitably not too far behind.

At long last, this looks set to stop with the forward moving elsewhere but questions remain over whether Marcel Brands will sanction a move for a new forward this month.

Brands has said that we won’t be spending any money this January but we may be forced to if either Calvert-Lewin or Tosun pick up fresh knocks.

We have seen The Professor deploy Gylfi Sigurdsson as a striker this season so it isn’t too hard to imagine other wingers or midfielders filling in for DCL if the worst should happen.

If we do secure Champions League football this season then job number one in the summer has to be signing a new forward.

Many players may be on the club’s radar but one name that won’t be there is Milik, to the great relief of Evertonians.

In other Everton news, Kevin Campbell doesn’t understand the complaints about the Everton fixture build up.
