Report: Everton winger Josh Bowler set to leave for Blackpool
Everton winger Josh Bowler, whose contract expires at the end of this month, has agreed a deal to join Championship side Blackpool.
According to TEAMtalk, newly-promoted Championship side Blackpool have secured the 22-year-old’s services and have already scheduled a medical for him at Bloomfield Road.
Bowler moved to Goodison Park in 2017 for an initial £1.5 million which rose to £4.25 million but failed to live up to his true potential.
Despite a loan spell at Hull City and a handful of appearances in the Premier League 2, he did not create an eye-catching impact at the club.
After four years, the Toffees decided not to extend his contract, leaving him free to agree to terms and sign for Blackpool in the due course.
What could’ve been
Bowler came to the club with the reputation of being a teenage sensation, which is why we agreed to pay such a sum to QPR for a player who hadn’t made a senior Championship appearance for them.
Our scouting team thought they had found someone who could be the club’s wide attacker for the foreseeable future, but after keep him on the books at the club for four seasons, his fate has been sealed and he’s set to leave on a free.
He was also rated highly by David Unsworth who labelled him a ‘jinking’ winger after a Premier League 2 game. [Everton’s official website]
Back in 2019, Bowler’s services on loan were hotly contested, with Hull City having to beat Derby County, Middlesbrough and Birmingham to secure his services. [TEAMtalk]
At that point it seemed like a couple of years of polishing in the Championship would make him ready for life in the Premier League, but that’s not happened.
All we can do is give him our best wishes for the future.
