Everton manager Rafael Benitez not keen on Yerry Mina
Everton manager Rafael Benitez is reportedly not a big fan of centre-back Yerry Mina and he could look to get rid of him, according to a report from Sport.
They claim that Benitez wants to “replace” the Colombian and has effectively “ruled him out” of the team that he wants to build at Goodison Park. They also add that Mina’s departure is “more than evident” and add that he wants to sign Barcelona centre-back Clement Lenglet, who was linked with a move to the Toffees by Fichajes recently.
Mina has not yet returned from his holiday due to competing for Colombia in the Copa America, and judging by this report; his Everton career is about to come to an abrupt end.
Does Mina deserve a chance under Benitez?
The Toffees signed the 26-year-old in the summer of 2018, and he has made 77 appearances since then for them.
However, he has been prone to mistakes, and if Benitez can see him as someone who could be sold and replaced, then we think that it is probably a wise move [Liverpool Echo].
Mina is a giant and physically imposing, but he has been criticised in the past by Everton fans for some poor defending in the Premier League, and it appears as if Benitez has seen enough in the past to make a judgement on him [Goodison News].
However, Lenglet didn’t have the best of seasons for Barca, so if he is the one the Toffees bring in, he will need Benitez to work his magic [Barca Universal].
Either way, though, whether Everton sign Lenglet or not, it appears as if Mina’s time at Goodison Park is up.
Perhaps he is just not quite at the standard required to take the Toffees onto the next level.
