Zaha and Sterling send messages to Andros Townsend after Everton move

Everton have signed English attacking midfielder Andros Townsend on a two-year deal after he left Crystal Palace at the end of his deal.

The 30-year-old spent five years at Selhurst Park, scoring 16 times in 185 appearances, but did not get a new contract.

Townsend will be reuniting with Toffees manager Rafa Benitez who brought him to Newcastle United, and is excited about the move.

The winger has taken to his personal Instagram account to react after becoming an Everton player, and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and his former teammate Wilfried Zaha have both sent their best wishes.

Good move

Fans hardly get excited when clubs secure free transfers, but Everton faithful should be with the addition of Townsend.

Benitez did not want a reunion for emotional reasons.

The Spaniard saw an opportunity to pounce and did not hesitate to, and we believe the winger could end up surprising a lot of people.

Townsend no longer boasts of the electric pace that earned him 13 England caps some years ago, but he makes up for that loss with his massive experience.

He is also capable of popping up with some worldies every now and then, with his 30-yard volley against Man City in December 2018 earning him the Premier League Goal of the Season gong and a 2019 FIFA Puskas Award nomination.

With over 200 top-flight appearances to his name, Townsend remains a force to reckon with as far as veterans go, and Everton may have just secured a massive bargain.

He is eager to prove himself and help out with our top-six ambitions, and a highly motivated player should never be underestimated.
