Hargreaves likens Everton attacker Demarai Gray to Cristiano Ronaldo
Owen Hargreaves compared Demarai Gray to Cristiano Ronaldo after guiding Everton to victory against Burnley on Monday night.
The former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder was awestruck by the 25-year-old’s impact on the game and the Toffees side since joining this summer.
Hargreaves then went on to compare him to the current Manchester United attacker and one of the greatest players in Real Madrid’s history.
Speaking in the post-match show for Premier League Productions, the BT Sport pundit said, “It might be controversial but I think he’s like Cristiano Ronaldo. He offers something unique to this Everton side and is almost unplayable on his day.”
What a comparison
Last night, Gray found the back of the net once again and appears to have adapted well to life on Merseyside.
His signing wasn’t one that the fans appeared to be elated over, but he’s started winning over a large proportion of the Goodison Park faithful.
He was the only player to arrive for a transfer fee this summer – suggesting just how tight the finances have been at the club.
However, it is a spectacular honour for him to be classed in the same bracket as Ronaldo – an elite goal scorer who’s etched his name in the history books as a legend for both Real Madrid and Manchester United.
We’re not ones to jump on the Gray-Ronaldo bandwagon, but the Englishman’s start at Everton has been very similar to how the Portuguese began life at both these clubs.
He grabbed games by the scruff of their necks and went on to score some special and timely goals to win matches for his side, and Gray has been doing exactly that thus far.
