Everton want to sign AS Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar

Everton are reportedly keen on signing AS Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar in January.

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, the 23-year-old has fallen out of favour with manager Jose Mourinho and the Toffees are keen on offering him an exit route.

While the report does not mention an asking price, Transfermarkt values the Spain international at £13.5million.

Good move?

Everton’s entire summer window hinged on outgoings and due to the lack of legitimate interest in any of their players, new manager Rafa Benitez was barely handed any funds to strengthen this side.

That is primarily why most of the players that he signed were free agents or were purchased for relative pittances – as was the case with Demarai Gray.

However, with James Rodriguez off the books, the club could be in a position to complete one big-money signing, which very could be Villar.

The 23-year-old is very similar to Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek, a player who was linked with a move to the club on deadline day.

He’s an attack-minded midfielder who likes playing intricate passes and bursting forward, looking to make things happen in the final third.

There certainly are similarities between the two, especially their first reactions on receiving the ball, and we’re sure that he would be a good fit under Benitez at Everton.
