Everton defender Ben Godfrey hailed by Alan Stubbs
Alan Stubbs believes that Ben Godfrey will become Everton’s best defender and has heaped praise on him.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, the former captain at Goodison Park revealed how highly he rates the 23-year-old centre-back.
The Toffees signed Godfrey from Norwich City in 2020, and he has settled into life on Merseyside brilliantly and is clearly someone who Stubbs has a lot of time for and rates.
He said: “For me, Ben Godfrey will be the best out of all of them, and it will be him and one other at some point.
“Once he gets more experience, he has fantastic attributes to be very good, but the one thing you need as a defender is experience because it helps you improve so much.”
Huge praise for Godfrey.
The centre-back missed the beginning of the season, but since he returned, he has played in every Premier League game and appears to be becoming a key part of Rafael Benitez’s side.
Since moving to Everton, Godfrey has earned international recognition and appears to be earning the praise of Toffees legends.
Certainly, the future looks very bright for Godfrey, who admitted in a recent interview just how ambitious he is and what drives him on [Daily Star].
Godfrey has until the summer of 2025 on his contract, so he should be set for a long stay at Goodison Park, and in that time, we would be surprised if he doesn’t receive any more England caps.
He looks to have all the attributes to go right to the top, and we are excited to watch that journey under Benitez.
Everything seems perfectly set up for Godfrey to grow into a brilliant centre-back and spend his best years playing for the Toffees.
In other Everton news, the Toffees could be set to miss out on a key target.
