Kevin Campbell discusses key Everton man's future
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell doesn’t believe that Everton should look to replace Rafael Benitez for anyone just yet.
The former Toffees striker thinks that his old club have had too many managers, and now they need someone to steady the ship, and Benitez is that man.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell revealed that he doesn’t want to see anyone else arrive at Goodison Park; he said: “I’d stick with Benitez.
“Benitez knows the Premier League inside out.
“The squad is not his.
“The two outfield players he’s brought in (Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray) have been arguably Everton’s most consistent performers.
“Let the manager manage; he’s only been there from the start of this, season and already there’s an injury crisis.
“Everton have been through the mill with this manager, that manager – they need some stability now.
“I think they need a safe pair of hands; Rafa Benitez is definitely a safe pair of hands.”
Strong stuff from Campbell.
The Toffees have now failed to win in their last seven league games, and you would think the pressure will be increasing on Benitez.
However, given his Premier League experience and record, we can see why Campbell still believes that he is the man who will turn things around.
The question for Benitez, though, is how long can this winless run go on before the fans and board question what he is trying to achieve?
