Kevin Campbell reacts as Everton are linked with Jesse Lingard

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard would be a brilliant signing for Everton.

The former Toffees forward has major concerns over the lack of goals under Rafa Benitez, sharing that area must be fixed.

The Telegraph has reported that Everton are plotting to sign Lingard on a free transfer once his contract expires in the summer.

Lingard has rejected a new deal at Old Trafford, and it has got many clubs on red alert as the summer draws ever closer.

“I think Jesse Lingard is a quality player,” Campbell exclusively told Goodison News.

“Getting someone like him with a proven track record, England international, not only is he a quality midfielder, he can score goals as well – that is so important.

“You look at Everton right now, without Richarlison or Calvert-Lewin, where are the goals going to come from? They don’t score enough goals.

“They really need threats from elsewhere and Lingard would be a very good addition.”

Get him in.

Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend have been brilliant additions, but they have struggled to keep up their early-season form.

In the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin up top, the two wingers have seen their assists drop and goals have also been a problem.

Gray did score against Liverpool, but that was handed to him on a plate and his threat in other games has been minimal.

Lingard would add another vocal point straight through the middle, and that is currently missing ahead of Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Many clubs will be interested, and if the Toffees are to win the race, they are going to have to move quickly and get it done.
