Everton manager Rafael Benitez sets out his transfer ambitions

Everton manager Rafael Benitez has revealed that he wants to sign a number 10 in the near future.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Spaniard discussed his current options and admitted that he doesn’t have a natural No 10.

However, he admitted that it is hard to get a good price for an attacking midfielder, but it is clear that he desperately wants to add one to his squad.

He said: “We have some players who can play in this position, but we don’t have a specialist.

“We can play [Demarai] Gray; we can play [Alex] Iwobi or [Andros] Townsend. They can play there, but they are not specialists in this position.

“When you think of the No 10 and look at those who back in the day wore the number – you think of Pele, Maradona so usually a really good, high-quality player who plays in this position. We’re maybe sometimes looking for this kind of player, but it’s not easy to find anyone in the market. At least at a good price.”

Will Benitez get what he wants?

You would have to say that given Everton’s current financial position, it is unlikely that the Toffees will spend money on a new attacking midfielder.

However, given that they have been linked with a loan move for Donny van de Beek, you would think that he could be the man that Benitez needs [ESPN].

The Toffees have also been linked with Aaron Ramsey, who Juventus are prepared to let leave on a free [Calciomercato].

Either of those two would be fantastic additions to this Everton side and could provide Benitez with exactly what he is looking for.

So, it will be intriguing to see what happens in January because it is clear that Benitez wants a new attacking midfielder.

Looking at the Toffees squad, a signing like this could elevate Everton up the table, and either van de Beek or Ramsey would be sublime signings.
