Kevin Campbell reacts as Everton linked with move for Dele Alli in January

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Tottenham playmaker Dele Alli would be a brilliant January signing for Everton.

The former Toffees talisman admitted that playing under Jose Mourinho hurt the England international, and his ability to score goals from midfield is needed at Goodison Park.

Alli has been linked consistently with the Toffees, and The Athletic have shared that he is free to leave on loan next month.

“I think he would,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“He needs a new start, someone who can do what he does from midfield – someone else who can score goals.

“The Mourinho regime really hurt him, he’s been an England international, a World Cup player, he’s done well and is still young enough to have a really good rest of his career.

“He needs a jumpstart, he needs a rejuvenation and why not Everton?”

Alli was brought in from the cold by Antonio Conte on Sunday, starting Spurs’ 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

Is that a sign that a u-turn has been made in London? Or could that have just given him a taste of what he could have more consistently elsewhere?

The Toffees are struggling for numbers, as shown by their starting XI against Chelsea, and building a team around Alli could persuade him to move to Merseyside.

Rafa Benitez will be considering his options, but one thing for certain is that we are desperate for signings next month.

In other Everton news, this BT Sports pundit was left stunned by what one Toffees ace did in the 1-1 draw against Chelsea
