Everton show little interest to offer Jonjoe Kenny new deal

Everton are reportedly showing very little interest to offer a new deal to defender Jonjoe Kenny who seems out of favour.

According to The Athletic, the Englishman is making a surge for a new contract whose deal is expiring at the end of the season.

He has been putting in a shift over the past few weeks for Frank Lampard, but is not close to an extension.

Lampard has also recently waxed lyrical over him, labelling him “perfect“.

Keep him?

Even if the club sees no future for Kenny, it makes no sense to let him leave on a free transfer.

Every player has a price tag and something is better than nothing, especially for a club like Everton that has FFP issues.

While the sale of Kenny will not solve that, decisions like this are why the club find themselves in a mess.

There has been a boardroom overhaul in the last few months and hopefully, the new set of people start acting like grownups and get the job done.

If Lampard wants to give Kenny a go and envisages a future first-team role for him, then he must be offered a new deal.

However, if the manager does not deem him fit enough, then plans should be made to placate his exit, even if that means giving him a one or two-year deal.
