Everton brace for Newcastle United bid for Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Newcastle United are preparing to make a formal offer to Everton for striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, according to The Telegraph.

The England international spent much of the 2021-22 season out through injury and the Magpies are hoping to take advantage of his less-than-spectacular campaign and bring him to the North East.

Everton manager Frank Lampard is adamant that the 25-year-old is not for sale but Eddie Howe, boss of the Toon, is hoping that an offer from Newcastle could be enough to make Calvert-Lewin ask to leave Goodison Park.

Having been taken over back in November, Newcastle is now the richest football club in the world and they are expected to flaunt their wealth in the transfer market and Calvert-Lewin could be one of those they bring to St James’ Park.

At the moment, they are simply monitoring the situation but a bid is expected to fall at Farhad Moshiri’s door before the transfer window slams shut at the end of August.

Rinse them

Everybody in football knows that the Magpies have pockets deeper than the rest of the Premier League combined so they also know that whatever price they put on a player, the Toon could afford.

Everton have to try their hardest to rinse Newcastle for as much money as humanely possible because it won’t be long before they aren’t interested in players from Finch Farm because they will be beyond us in no time.

Calvert-Lewin himself needs to find some form at the start of the 2022-23 campaign because if the World Cup were to happen this summer, he would not be in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

Luckily for the 25-year-old, the tournament takes place in November this year as the temperatures would be too hot in Qatar had it been another summer competition so he has the chance to force his way back into the Three Lions’ plans.

He can’t afford to hang around at a club on the slide so if Newcastle do come in and make a good enough offer, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him ask to leave and we’ll have to act quickly in the transfer market to replace him.

In other Everton news, Salomon Rondon’s future on Merseyside may not extend beyond this summer as he opens up about having just 12 months left on his Toffees contract.
