Everton want to complete striker signing before weekend clash vs Nottingham Forest
Everton want to complete the signing of a striker before the weekend clash against Nottingham Forest, according to a report in The Mirror.
The Toffees have started the season with back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Aston Villa, with only an own goal scored in their favour as Dominic Calvert-Lewin looks to recover from an injury picked up in pre-season.
But with Salomon Rondon left on the bench last week and Anthony Gordon struggling in a makeshift striker role, Frank Lampard is looking to bring in a new face before newly promoted Forest pull up to Goodison Park.
Serhou Guirassy, Ludovic Ajorque, Armando Broja, Che Adams, Ben Brereton-Diaz and Neal Maupay have all been linked with a move in recent times, but no deals are currently said to be advanced or imminent.
It seems to be common sense that Everton really need a striker, but it’s good to know that the club are treating it as a priority going into the next game.
Any signing would need to be completed before midday on Friday to be eligible to play in the weekend fixture, so it seems unlikely that will get done.
However we’ve seen the club move quickly and quietly in the transfer market this summer with the signings of Ruben Vinagre and Dwight McNeil coming out of nowhere, so it can’t be completely ruled out.
Whoever it is that comes in needs to be ready to hit the ground running to help this team find the goals it has been desperately deprived of, but it will also allow players like Anthony Gordon to play in their more natural role which should help the team perform better too.
However unlikely it is, Everton need a striker as soon as possible. Fingers crossed they can pull a rabbit out of the hat.
