Everton ready to meet Crystal Palace asking price for Jean-Philippe Mateta before 11pm on deadline day
Everton have made a late bid for Crystal Palace striker Jean Philippe Mateta as Sean Dyche desperately tries to land an attacker, according to newspaper journalist, Alan Nixon.
It’s understood the Toffees would have to make a bid for the 25-year-old after seeing a loan bid turned down earlier in the week (Alan Nixon Patreon, 31 January).
It’s believed the Toffees could well be willing to meet Palace’s asking price due to their desperate need to land a striker before Tuesday’s deadline.
Get it done
This is a move the Toffees need to get over the line and they simply have to pay the price Palace are asking for. They currently have a severe lack of striker options and the 25-year-old would go someway in easing Dyche’s attacking woes.
He’s not seen too much gametime for the South London club so there could well be a willingness from the Eagles to part ways with the forward. Unfortunately, time is very much against the board at the moment, and it’s hard to see how a deal could be concluded as we edge dangerously close to the deadline.
It’s been a frustrating couple of days for the decision-makers a Goodison Park. Attracting players to Merseyside has proved difficult with Conor Gallagher just one of a number who have turned down the advances of Dyche’s side.
It’s looking unlikely but Mateta would certainly make what has been a miserable month, slightly more bearable for Everton. This one could go right to the wire.
