Everton proven right as Tom Davies faces lengthy spell on the sidelines
Sheffield United midfielder Tom Davies will be out for the rest of the year with an injury, according to Alan Nixon, proving Everton right in their decision to let him leave on a free transfer at the end of last season.
The newspaper journalist shared via his Patreon on 10 October that Davies has torn his quadricep, which has been assessed by the Blades’ medical staff and he now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Everton released Davies when his contract expired in July, with the numbers they already have in midfield and his lack of involvement becoming clear, they have now been justified in their decision.

Davies has made just three appearances for his new club so far this season, losing all three, including the heavy 8-0 defeat to Newcastle United where he came off the bench in the 62nd minute, losing possession nine times, and losing five of his eight duels. [Sofascore]
It had already seemed as if Everton made the right choice in letting him leave for pastures new given his early performances, but now with this long-term injury, the club can rest assured he won’t come back to bite them.
It’s an unfortunate circumstance for the club to see one of its academy products who had initially shown so much promise struggling elsewhere, but ultimately having his wages off the books will prove a long-term bonus for Everton.

With the success of Sean Dyche’s key midfielders Abdoulaye Doucoure, Idrissa Gana Gueye, James Garner and Amadou Onana, it is highly unlikely Davies would have seen much game time at Goodison Park regardless of his new injury issue, so getting him off the books was a key step.
