Everton: ‘Perfect’ player highlighted as Goodison Park transfer plans shared
Everton are not expected to be too active in the January transfer window, but plans already appear to be under way for the summer.
The Toffees spent around £32million in the most recent window on Yousef Chermiti and Beto, while Ashley Young joined for free and Arnaut Danjuma and Jack Harrison arrived on loan.
In an article for the Liverpool Echo [1 January], Joe Thomas outlined Everton’s plans for this window, which officially runs until 1 February.

Thomas explained that if any money is spent this month, it will be on a player, or players, “at the early stages of their career” who “have the potential to grow with the club”.
Basically, transfer chief Kevin Thelwell is targeting young players with a view to the long term, rather than spending big on players for there here and now.
Thomas highlighted Amadou Onana as the “perfect example” as to what Thelwell is looking to replicate over the coming transfer windows – a player who was just 20 when he arrived and is now a target for big-name rivals.
It is perhaps therefore not surprising that the Toffees have been linked with Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle, Manchester City midfielder Alex Robertson and Gent’s Archie Brown in recent weeks.

Everton have a good record when it comes to nabbing players from the Football League – Jarrad Branthwaite being arguably the best recent example – and this is an approach that makes sense.
Supporters would love to see a big name brought in for a large amount of money, but Thelwell clearly has a plan in mind and it is one that will make for a bright future.
In other Everton news, Andy Burnham has shared his “worry” with regards to a development at Goodison Park.
