Brian Sorensen has called for his Everton Women's team to finish the Women's Super League with more consistency as the Toffees prepare to face Manchester United on Sunday (31 March).

The Toffees are just two places above bottom-placed Bristol City, but with nine points separating the sides and only five matches of the campaign remaining, the players have a chance to play with freedom.

Long-term injuries have played a vital part in Everton Women's season, which is certainly something that will be taken into consideration, but a 10th-place finish would still be disappointing.

Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Emma Sanders quoted Sorensen as saying: "With how our season has been, with so many players out and no consistency, we just want to get that consistency in the last bit and build for next season.

"But it looks like, as the sun is here, starting to shine, and hopefully, it will do that for our team news."

Can Everton Women finish the Women's Super League on a positive note?

Despite sitting in 10th with 15 points from 17 matches, only recording four league victories all season, the Toffees can still catch up to Aston Villa in seventh, with Brighton and Leicester City also in their sights.

Finishing the campaign on a positive note will be extremely important heading into next season, showing the potential that the current squad hold. A positive result against Man United would be just the start.

Injuries are something that affects every team, but Everton's issues have been a whole other issue, which was showcased before the clash against Villa on Saturday 16 March.

The club will be hoping for a very different story next season, with Sorensen's current squad showing plenty of promise, especially during their run in the Women's FA Cup.

Having bypassed the Villans in January, a convincing 7-1 win over Nottingham Forest saw them set up a quarter-final clash with Chelsea, only to narrowly miss out in a 1-0 defeat.

There are several signs that this squad is capable of producing something special. With more consistency, next season could be Everton's time to impress.
