Everton striker Youseff Chermiti has been slammed by Jamie Carragher for a "daft" incident in the Toffees' Premier League clash with Luton Town.

Sean Dyche's side had already confirmed their place in next season's Premier League but still managed to pick up a point with a 1-1 draw at Kenilworth Road on Friday (3 May) thanks to Dominic Calvert-Lewin's first-half penalty.

However, the home side nearly snatched a winner late in the second half as they were given a free-kick deep in injury time following a "silly" challenge from Chermiti, much to the frustration of Carragher on commentary.

Speaking on Sky Sports Main Event (3 May, 22:00) he said: "It's a brilliant header from Branthwaite but it's just daft. I think it's Chermiti who gives a silly free-kick away. This must be the last chance."

Will Everton and Sean Dyche keep Youseff Chermiti in the summer transfer window?

Chermiti has enjoyed a strange first season at Goodison Park. While the striker has barely featured in the Toffees first team, he has received some criticism from fans and pundits alike whenever he has managed to get on the field.

His display in his first Premier League start against Brentford wasn't perfect, but it showed in flashes what the Portuguese youngster is about as he worked hard at the top end of the pitch to battle away, just like Calvert-Lewin and Beto.

At only 19, it would be naive to assume the striker was ever going to be the finished article and that was clear in the clash with Luton on Friday. His challenge in the final minutes was that of a young forward desperate to make an impact.

Hopefully, as he continues to grow and mature at Goodison Park, Chermiti will be able to cut those errors out of his game. He got away with one at Kenilworth Road, but he needs to become more consistent if he wants to avoid a summer loan exit.
