Serie B side Spezia have made contact over a potential move for Everton midfielder Halid Djankpata, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian journalist posted on X (24 August) with a report from his website's live transfer tracker (8:19am) which stated that Djankpata could be a "surprise" signing before the window closes.

Djankpata has captained the youth sides having progressed through all levels of the academy at Finch Farm, with the 19-year-old also playing internationally for Italy at under-19 level.

Will Everton sanction Halid Djankpata transfer?

The Toffees are hardly blessed with options in any area of the pitch at present, with Sean Dyche stating he had just 14 senior players fit for their 4-0 defeat against Tottenham.

That being said, it's unlikely that Djankpata will be making a first-team breakthrough any time soon –  unless the current crisis escalates to unthinkable levels in the coming weeks.

Right-back Roman Dixon and under-21s team-mate of Djankpata's was drafted into the squad to face Spurs, but that's with all other options unavailable.

However, the club's budgetary restrictions in the transfer market mean that any player for sale if the price is right – as was shown with Amadou Onana – and that will also be the case for Djankpata.

A move to Serie B may be the best thing for Djankpata to make a name for himself in first-team football, and with Everton needing money by any means necessary, a switch to Spezia is very much on the cards.
