Bryan King expects it to take "at least six months" for Everton to decide whether to offer Dele Alli a brand-new contract at Goodison Park.

The ex-Goodison scout thinks Alli needs to be playing consistent football with the Under-21s in that time to prove his worth on Merseyside.

As reported by the Daily Mail [26 November], Alli has suffered yet another injury setback as the out-of-contract midfielder continues to train with the Toffees.

And King - speaking exclusively to Goodison News - thinks the 28-year-old still has a long way ahead of him if he wants to get back playing.

"The road is only getting longer for Alli," King said.

"Decisions will be made when he can start playing again. He will need to be playing with the Under-21s for at least six months before the club can decide whether it is worth offering him a new contract.

"He has got a lot to prove if he wants to earn another contract. It is a shame because he was a very good footballer, and I'd imagine he still is if he can get back to full fitness."

Dele Alli to earn brand-new Everton contract at Goodison Park?

Therefore, it is no surprise that he continues to work hard behind the scenes in pursuit of a contract with the Toffees. However, at some point, the club will need to make a decision, as all the uncertainty isn't fair on themselves or the player.
