Everton hit by ‘Nightmare’ news after recent Liverpool developments

Everton having their game against Liverpool postponed due to Storm Darragh was a “nightmare” scenario, Paul Merson says.

Goodison Park was set to host the Reds on Saturday [7 December] but it had to be called off due to the severe weather conditions caused by the storm around the UK.

Merson feels the Blues would’ve wanted the game to go ahead on the day due to the conditions, but now the Merseyside derby is expected to be scheduled for 11 February [Mirror, 12 December].

In his Sportskeeda column [12 December], the ex-Arsenal star wrote: “In fact, I think it’s a nightmare for them that the derby did not go ahead as planned. Liverpool were coming off the back of a draw, a bit jaded and had Mac Allister suspended.

“The conditions were also going to be tricky due to the storm, so Everton may have sensed an outside chance of getting something from it.”

Everton need perfect Goodison farewell v Liverpool

The Toffees are playing their final season at Goodison Park, with the Merseysiders set to move to Bramley-Moore Dock next summer.

While the new stadium will likely offer state-of-the-art facilities for fans, the atmosphere of Goodison will certainly be hard to replicate.

With over 130 years of history, the Blues’ home ground has seen many ups and downs, the latest being the relegation battles fought in the previous few campaigns.

Everton must give the Goodison the farewell it deserves, and a potential win over their arch-rivals under the lights at home will undoubtedly be historic.

The Toffees haven’t had the best of seasons, but that won’t matter on the day Liverpool will visit their noisy neighbours.

Before the Merseyside derby, though, Dyche needs to overcome the tough fixtures ahead: Arsenal on Saturday [14 December], followed by Chelsea and Manchester City.

If the Blues can get past December with some positive results, then the supporters will have every right to be confident about their status in the Premier League going into the new year.
