Everton were hardly "disrespectful" in their wording of the statement announcing Sean Dyche's sacking, despite what Robbie Savage thinks.

Writing in the Daily Mirror (10 January), Savage slammed the 75-word statement posted on the Toffees' website after Dyche's dismissal, which came just hours before Thursday's (9 January) FA Cup tie with Peterborough.

While the timing of the sacking left some puzzled, the Blues stuck to the commonly-seen line when it comes to managerial dismissals, and took an information-first, rather than emotional, approach.

Savage said: "Everton's 75-word statement announcing Sean Dyche’s departure as manager was blunt and, some might say, disrespectful.

"Not a word of thanks for keeping them up two years running where other clubs buckled under the pressure of a relegation battle.

"No pat on the back for saving Everton hundreds of millions of pounds that relegation would have cost.

"If new owners The Friedkin Group think changing the manager will alter the script in the short term, it won’t.

"I feel sorry for Dyche. If he had been given substantial funds to invest in the squad, I believe he would have produced better results – and saying ‘thank you’ to him would have been nice."

Sean Dyche's time for gratitude will come at Everton

Should Moyes pick up from where Dyche left off and lead the Toffees to Premier League survival at the end of this season, there'll be few fans who aren't grateful to their departed manager for the job he did.

Dyche rightfully received plaudits aplenty last term for comfortably keeping the Blues in the top-flight despite two points deductions, but even he knew just how badly they were spiralling so far this term.

Moyes inherits a team sat 16th in the table and just a point above the relegation zone, leaving him with a sizeable task to ensure Evertonians are watching a Premier League club come the start of next season.

With the move to Bramley-Moore Dock on the horizon, Dyche's role in steering the Toffees towards their bright new future will be recognised – albeit recent displays suggest that could be in spite of him.

There is no 'good' time to sack a manager – if things were 'good', they wouldn't be sacked – but it's clear that if and when safety is assured, Dyche will be given his dues for ensuring the Blues stayed on track.
