Kevin Thelwell needs to identify transfer targets as David Moyes wants reinforcements at Everton, Michael Ball says.

The ex-Toffee believes the Scottish manager knows the improvements needed at Goodison Park in the winter transfer window.

Ball feels it's now up to Thelwell and The Friedkin Group to bolster the squad before the 3 February deadline.

The 45-year-old wrote in the Liverpool Echo (21 January): "We want to improve, and I think the new manager has got an idea over where he wants to improve so now it's up to Kevin Thelwell and the recruitment staff to identify who these players are and whether the money men at TFG can get them in before the window closes.

"Hopefully, before now and the end of January, that can happen, however, I am also confident that Moyes can get more out of this group of players than what they've been shown already this season."

Everton winter transfer to boost relegation survival

The Merseyside outfit are in a relegation battle at the moment, and reinforcing the squad would evidently boost their chances of survival.

There are seemingly large holes in the Blues' squad, with goalscoring being one of the most significant issues Moyes needs to fix.

Despite that, the new boss masterminded the 3-2 win over Tottenham at home on 19 January, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Iliman Ndiaye getting on the scoresheet.

Everton will arguably want another number nine in their squad after Armando Broja picked up a serious injury and will be out for a considerable period.

The Goodison faithful will want to see a quality signing rather than someone who just makes up the numbers in the squad.

Any player who comes in the winter window will be expected to make an instant impact and help the Toffees survive the drop.

While Thelwell needs to identify potential targets and the Friedkins quickly need to make funds available, whether a new signing will arrive in the coming weeks remains to be seen.
