Everton make deadline-busting approach to sign Chelsea ace Chukwuemeka

Everton have made enquiries into the availability of Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka ahead of the 3 February deadline, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The news outlet reported via its print edition (2 February, pg84) that the Toffees have made an approach for Chukwuemeka having been linked with the 21-year-old earlier in the window [TBR].

Chelsea look all but set to sanction a loan exit for Chukwuemeka in a bid to get the midfielder some game time at a high level.

Borussia Dortmund among other foreign clubs are also believed to have expressed an interest with time running out to finalise a deal.

Everton could do with high-quality midfield depth

Since the appointment of David Moyes, the Merseysiders have progressed massively on the pitch but his efforts will only be improved with the addition of quality across the squad.

As of right now, the Toffees are yet to finalise any transfer deals this winter but it looks set to be a busy 48 hours with the deadline rapidly approaching.

Chukwuemeka, should a deal materialise, would be a shrewd piece of business by Everton and would provide them with excellent depth and quality in the midfield areas which has been a struggle for large parts of the campaign.

Chelsea will more than likely prioritise a loan switch that guarantees the 21-year-old some game time and out of the sides interested, the Toffees appear to be in the best position to be able to offer that.

As it stands, Everton have three of their five matchday loan spots filled and if a deal were to happen, Chukwuemeka would occupy the penultimate one.
