Everton news round-up: Calvert-Lewin new club, Branthwaite statement made

Everton’s summer business is set to increase in the coming weeks.

David Moyes is set to be backed by the Friedkin Group as he seeks to take the Blues into the top half of the Premier League.

It could be a transformation summer on Merseyside, with several players departing, including Abdoulaye Doucoure and Asmir Begovic.

A deal for Thierno Barry is expected to be completed in the near future, but that will not be the end of the Toffees’ spending.

Luiz to leave Juventus as Everton eye deal

Everton could sign Douglas Luiz this summer, just one year after he left Aston Villa.

A report from La Gazzetta Dello Sport (7 July, page 5) claims that Moyes’ side have asked for information on the Brazilian midfielder.

It states that no concrete offer has been made yet and the 27-year-old is also attracting interest from Manchester United and Fulham.

Everton eye new right back after Tete snub

Everton are still looking for a right-back after Kenny Tete decided to stay at Fulham rather than join them on a free transfer.

Dharmesh Sheth claims that the Toffees are still in the market for an upgrade in the position after the Dutchman decided to remain in London.

Speaking on Sky Sports News (7 July), he said: “Everton are in the market for a right back after Kenny Tete signed a new contract at Fulham.”

Premier League rival wants Calvert-Lewin after Everton exit

Dominic Calvert-Lewin could join Manchester United after his Everton departure.

A report from talkSPORT (6 July) claimed that the ex-Blues star, who left on 30 June when his contract expired, is a target for the Red Devils.

It states that the 28-year-old, who scored three goals in 26 matches last season, could be a viable option due to the Old Trafford outfit’s financial concerns.

Everton make Branthwaite statement

Everton have signed Jarrad Branthwaite to fresh terms ahead of the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Finance expert Dan Plumley believes that tying their generational talent down is a real coup for the Toffees and a sign of their intention.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News (6 July), he said: “That’s a really positive move by Everton to tie him down.”

“We’ve always talked about him as one of the assets that you could look to cash in on, and of course, that may or may not have been more desperate in recent years and times gone by.

“That’s not the case at the moment.

“They’ve still got to be a little bit careful, but he was one of those that we’ve always looked at and said, if they can hang on to him, that’d be a really good piece of business in its own right, and that is the case here.

“I think that’s a really positive statement from the club, and obviously positive for the fans as well, that actually you can now look again to build a team into the future.”
