Everton: Jarrad Branthwaite injury could spell bad news for James Garner’s England prospects
Everton could throw James Garner’s England chances into jeopardy before the end of the season.
The midfielder has been a star for the Toffees this season and was rewarded with a new contract after plentiful links away.
Tying his future down at Hill Dickinson Stadium was massive, especially after such an excellent first half of the campaign.
That has continued since and has also seen him seal a place in the England squad with the hope of going to the World Cup in the summer.
Garner will need to maintain his form to do that, but his chances may now be dashed after Jarrad Branthwaite picked up another injury at Everton.

Jarrad Branthwaite injury could spark tactical change for David Moyes
The centre-back was excellent against Liverpool last time around and picked up rave reviews from David Moyes.
Unfortunately, the Merseyside derby ended in tears for the defender as he was forced off due to injury before Virgil van Dijk netted a winner for the Reds.
| Stat vs Liverpool | Jarrad Branthwaite |
| Minutes played | 87 |
| Defensive contributions | 11 |
| Recoveries | 7 |
| Duels won | 6 |
That contributed to a nightmare finish against Arne Slot’s side and could have a telling impact on the rest of Everton’s season.
After contributing to 11 defensive actions while winning six duels, he came off and will certainly be hard to replace.
Jake O’Brien is the closest option for Moyes to choose, although that would require him to move across from right-back to the middle of defence.

He chipped in with two blocks, five clearances, and one interception against Liverpool, so he could definitely work in that role.
If he does move into that role, Garner could be forced to right-back again at Everton, something which would hamper his England chances.
James Garner could miss out on England World Cup call
There has already been frustration this season that the 25-year-old has been forced out to the right side of defence.
He has been the Toffees’ best midfielder and deserves to feature in the middle of the park to prove his qualities in his natural position.
The 25-year-old has contributed to nine goals this season and has created 46 chances, so he knows how good he can be as a box-to-box.
That may not be possible between now and the end of the season, as Moyes’ hand may be forced for him to fill in.

Thomas Tuchel won’t like that and could turn his attention away from Garner before choosing a different midfield option for his World Cup squad.
It is unfortunate that Branthwaite’s injury could have such a devastating impact, but that is the reality of the situation.
