Everton to rely on Seamus Coleman, only he has winning experience vs Manchester City
Everton will be calling on Seamus Coleman to help them secure a much-needed victory against Manchester City on Monday.
The Republic of Ireland has been ever-present in the squad on Merseyside for over 15 years after coming in from Sligo Rovers.
He saw it all over the years at Goodison Park and has since played a role in the move to Hill Dickinson Stadium this campaign.
The right-back hasn’t featured regularly in recent months, but has certainly been a useful voice in the dressing room under David Moyes.
Things won’t be different this time around as Everton prepare to face Manchester City, knowing that Coleman has experience of sealing three points in the fixture.

Everton last secured victory over Manchester City in 2017
The Blues certainly haven’t had the best of luck when it comes to facing off against the Citizens in recent years.
Their record in the last five fixtures features just one draw and five defeats as Pep Guardiola’s side continue to get the better of the Merseysiders.
| Date | Result |
| 18/10/26 | Manchester City 2-0 Everton |
| 19/04/25 | Everton 0-2 Manchester City |
| 26/12/24 | Manchester City 1-1 Everton |
| 10/02/24 | Manchester City 2-0 Everton |
| 27/12/23 | Everton 1-3 Manchester City |
There will be hope from Moyes that he can change that this season, despite falling to a 2-0 away defeat back in October.
If the Scot can do that, he will have to secure a win over City for the first time since a January 2017 win at Goodison Park.
The Toffees won 4-0 as goals from Romelu Lukaku, Kevin Mirallas, Tom Davies, and Ademola Lookman made all the difference.
The upcoming meeting between the two sides will represent over nine years and a total of 3396 days since the last win over the Citizens.
Coleman may not be a regular for Everton right now, but he is the only member of the squad remaining with that winning experience from 2017.
Seamus Coleman starred in 4-0 win over Manchester City
The 37-year-old is certainly someone that every current Toffees star can lean on for support because of his experience.
That will certainly be the case in the upcoming Hill Dickinson Stadium outing as Guardiola’s men continue their hunt for the Premier League title.
Things won’t be easy, but if Everton can match the performance level of Coleman from the last victory over City, they will be just fine.
The Irishman featured for the full 90 minutes at Goodison and grabbed an assist for Lookman with his only created chance of the day.

He also completed 100 per cent of his attempted dribbles while also swinging in four crosses to try and cause problems for the away side.
That was all bettered by his three defensive actions, four recoveries and four duel wins, which sum up his attitude and work rate in L4.
Looking at that will be massively positive for the current Toffees cohort and is something that they must repeat to get anything out of this City squad.
