Beto: ‘Stick or twist’ question asked at Everton as goal vs Crystal Palace brings up transfer decision
Beto is entering the final 12 months of his Everton contract this summer, which prompts internal figures to make a big call on whether to keep him or not.
The striker netted another fantastic goal for the Toffees in their 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday.
Beto is clearly ahead of Thierno Barry in David Moyes‘ thinking at the minute, with controversy around the French forward remaining.
The Everton boss is said to want a new striker this summer, and given his one centre-forward formation, it’s hard to see how three number nines could be at the club.
This summer would be Everton’s best chance to get a fee for Beto, with just over 12 months remaining on his deal at Hill Dickinson.

Beto form brings up important transfer call
Beto twisted Maxence Lacroix up for his goal at Selhurst Park, and is once again proving that when on form, he can be a really good Premier League striker.
The 28-year-old is in his best footballing years and is now on nine goals for this league campaign, and has flipped his own script in recent matches.
| Game | Beto goal contribution |
| Crystal Palace v Everton | Goal |
| Everton v Man City | N/A |
| Everton v Liverpool | Goal |
| Brentford v Everton | Goal |
| Everton v Chelsea | 2 Goals and 1 Assist |
As seen in the table above, the Guinea-Bissau international has six goal contributions in his last five matches, with this summer the final chance for the Toffees to rake in a decent fee for him.
Local journalist Christopher Beesley suggests that internal figures at Everton will need to decide if this is the summer they cash in on Beto, or if they keep him for the future.
Beesley wrote, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo: “Given that Beto is poised to enter the final 12 months of his current contract this summer, Everton could have a big transfer decision on their hands on whether they want to stick or twist.”

The Blues know that Beto can be very hot and cold, and given the trajectory that the Friedkin Group want to go in, they may not be moved by his current form.
Alternatively, TFG and Moyes may see him as a more viable option than Barry for short-term success.
What would happen with Thierno Barry?
If Everton were to finish the season with a qualification for a European spot, things would look very different on the transfer front this summer.
Though that dream is ebbing away, it would instantly demand the need for a bigger squad, which would see fewer players leave through the doors at Finch Farm this summer.
If Beto were to stay, Barry would most likely be the third option striker at Hill Dickinson, which wouldn’t be great for his playing chances.

As a result, Moyes could ask for the club to sanction a loan exit for the 23-year-old, who could develop away from the Toffees for a season.
It will be interesting to see what the club do, but if they decide against selling Beto, a small contract extension wouldn’t go amiss.
