Everton: Tyrique George’s contract examined ahead of Chelsea return

Everton certainly haven’t seen the best of Tyrique George since his January loan move.

The 20-year-old completed a temporary switch to Hill Dickinson Stadium in the winter with a view to adding attacking depth to the Toffees.

It seemed to be a measure to counter Dwight McNeil’s imminent departure to Crystal Palace on deadline day.

That never happened, and it is potentially that which has negatively impacted the Chelsea loanee’s spell on Merseyside.

George has failed to impress at Everton, and we now assess what we know about his current contract situation at Stamford Bridge.

What is Tyrique George’s contract situation at Chelsea?

There were some positive flashes last season from the winger as he became a true first teammer with the West London club.

That was especially the case in the Europa Conference League last season where he made 13 appearances before lifting the trophy at the end of the campaign.

He didn’t follow that into the current season and was reduced to just 13 appearances with the Blues before departing on loan.

The forward joined the Toffees, but things have only gone from bad to worse after making just one Premier League start.

That won’t make life any more secure at Stamford Bridge, considering he penned a contract extension in 2024 that will only keep him there until the summer of 2027.

When the current season ends, he’ll have just one year remaining on his contract, on reported wages of £7,500 per week and £390,000 yearly.

George’s future away from Everton is now uncertain, with just two games remaining until his loan spell comes to an end.

Could George return to Everton permanently?

Although the youngster hasn’t impressed on loan this season, his opportunities have been severely limited.

Everton’s race to potentially qualify for Europe has played its part, with George and Tyler Dibling both watching on for the bench regularly.

That may be the case, but moving into next season, should someone like McNeil move on, his chances may become more free-flowing in L3.

A permanent deal would obviously depend on the transfer fee, but it feels increasingly unlikely at this stage, moving into the summer.

It feels more likely that he will end up further down the Premier League should he depart Chelsea after his return.
