Artem Dovbyk isn’t obvious Everton fit as links to Roma striker resurface

Artem Dovbyk wouldn’t be a productive performer in Everton‘s current system, as the Roma striker is again linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

If there’s one department that has let Everton down this season, it’s been in attack.

Indeed, the Toffees have scored just 46 Premier League goals in 2025-26, which is equal to that of Tottenham’s for context.

David Moyes will no doubt be looking to sharpen his sides’ cutting edge this summer, and numerous players are sure to be linked with a move to Merseyside.

Everton look set for an ambitious summer of spending with their financial situation appearing healthy, and that could lead Moyes to the Italian capital in any potential centre-forward search.

What is Artem Dovbyk’s profile as a striker?

Everton have been linked with a summer move for Dovbyk, having previously been strongly touted to the Roma striker during this season’s January window.

The 28-year-old Ukrainian international has been in the Italian capital since the summer of 2024, having signed for I Giallorossi (The Yellow and Reds) from Spanish outfit Girona.

After scoring 17 goals and providing three assists from 45 total appearances in all competitions during his debut 2024-25 campaign with Roma, he’s only been able to bag three goals and two assists from 17 games this season.

That’s not been helped by the fact he’s missed a significant amount of time through injury, but when on the pitch, Dovbyk hasn’t put in many performances to really write home about in 2025-26.

He’s the kind of striker that thrives on deliveries into the box, as detailed via FotMob, with all 10 of his Serie A shots this term coming from inside the 18-yard box.

Dovbyk has averaged 6.80 touches in the opposition box per 90, but as shown by his defensive numbers, he struggles to offer much else outside the penalty area.

He’s registered just 1.17 recoveries per 90 this season, which ranks him in the bottom 4.9 percentile of all Serie A strikers this year, whilst also averaging 0.23 possessions won in the final third, which puts him in the bottom 15.9 percentile respectively.

Even in 2024-25, Dovbyk averaged just 26.4 touches per game which put him in the bottom 1.5 percentile of Serie A centre-forwards, whilst also creating 0.93 chances per 90, winning 0.15 tackles and 0.30 possessions won in the final third respectively.

He’s a big, physical target man centre-forward, which is excellent if you’re a team that puts plenty of crosses and deliveries into the box.

Why Dovbyk isn’t a clear fit for Everton

However, that’s not the sort of team that Everton are under Moyes, which would raise serious questions over Dovbyk’s suitability to thrive in this side.

The Toffees are 13th in the Premier League for chances created this season with 69, are 16th for accurate passes per game with 302 and 13th for accurate crosses per game with 3.9 respectively.

Moyes’ men also rank 13th for touches in the opposition box with 862, 15th for corners with 158, 14th for shots on target per game with 3.8 and 10th for set-piece goals with 12 respectively.

If Dovbyk was going to be an obvious fit at Hill Dickinson Stadium, Everton would surely need to be ranking much higher and posting considerably better numbers in those respective categories.
