Nathan Patterson will feel aggrieved as new Everton reveal proves he’s best right-back option

Nathan Patterson will be wondering what he’s done wrong to David Moyes, not to be getting more game time at Everton.

The Toffees have a clear right-back issue that needs to be addressed this summer, especially after the announcement that club captain Seamus Coleman will leave after 17 years of service.

Jake O’Brien has been Moyes’ go-to in the position, despite the 6,6″ Irishman being a natural centre-back.

Other trials have seen James Garner feature in right-back, but the only natural option sees nothing but the bench since returning from his cursed injury issues.

Patterson has been an outcast at Everton this season, and Moyes’ agenda can be seen in the latest stats that prove the former is the best option to go for.

Everton win most games with Nathan Patterson at right-back

Everton have started their transfer search for a new right-back following Coleman’s announced departure, with the latest links to Celta Vigo star Oscar Mingueza.

The Spaniard will be a free agent this summer with his contract set to expire with Celta Vigo, but the Blues will face competition for his signature.

As highlighted by Ian Croll on X, the Toffees have a 66.67 win percentage when Patterson starts at right-back.

The 24-year-old has started three times in the Premier League this season, winning two, drawing one, and playing out 116 minutes for the Blues in the FA Cup against Sunderland, before his side lost without him on penalties.

O’Brien is Moyes’ most-used option, and interestingly has the worst win record of 27.58 per cent, with just eight wins in 28 starts.

Garner has a 50 per cent win ratio from two starts at right-back, with the only defeats coming against Manchester United and Arsenal.

Not only do the stats suggest that Moyes is getting his selections wrong, but the eye test too, as it’s clear for Everton fans to see his agenda.

Patterson still destined for Everton exit

Patterson has been cursed with injuries during his time in Merseyside, only managing to make 69 appearances for the club since joining in January of 2022.

The Scottish star has only managed eight appearances in all competitions this campaign, and it looks set to be the least amount of games he’s played in a full season for Everton.
