Tyrique George has to be handed final Everton audition vs Tottenham after latest cameo

Tyrique George was a rare standout in Everton‘s 3-1 loss to Sunderland on Sunday.

The loanee came on against the Black Cats in the 73rd minute, replacing Tim Iroegbunam at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

While the Toffees went on to record a disappointing result in their final home game of the season, the Chelsea man impressed in his cameo.

David Moyes must put serious thought into giving him a final Blues audition in their final match of the campaign against Tottenham on 24 May.

Everton need to see more of George before they make a decision on his future, and the recent scenes surely enhance his chances.

How did George perform vs Sunderland

Everton are understood to have a £22million buy option in the loan deal, and they have not seen enough evidence to trigger it yet.

George gave a solid performance against Regis Le Bris’ side, despite failing to record a single shot in his time on the pitch, per Sofascore.

He managed to create one big chance, completed both crosses that he attempted and recorded an 88 per cent pass accuracy, misplacing just one of eight attempts to find a teammate.

The 20-year-old had 15 touches in the contest, and only lost the ball on two occasions, showing that he can be comfortable in possession.

He tried to help out defensively once, winning the only ground duel that he contested, for a 100 per cent success rate.

Why Everton and George may have doubts

Moyes’ reluctance to play young talents could come back to haunt the Toffees.

They have to chance to sign George, who is one of the most promising young talents in the country, but he may be unwilling to join, given the lack of game time.

The recruitment team may also be reluctant to activate the buy clause, as he has not done enough, but he has not really had a fair shake at things.

If he was to start against the Lilywhites, it would give a better picture of where he is at, and give them a better idea of whether to add him to the squad next season, or to move on to alternative targets when the summer window comes around.
